IPL Betting Tips (Updated 2021)
In this article, we take a closer look at the cricketing juggernaut that is the IPL. We delve into the history, the format of the tournament and provide you with IPL betting tips on who we think will win the tournament. The IPL betting tips also cover where you can stream the event and what betting sites to use for placing bets on your favourite matches.
History Of The IPL
The Indian Premier League has been around for 12 years which is a short time when compared to other cricket tournaments such as the World Cup or the Ashes. Despite the event being this young, it has risen to the top of the most watched cricketing events of the year.
It not only attracts cricket stars from all over the world but advertisements and endorsements that make it into a very lucrative affair. It has become an event that is second only to the ICC World Cup in terms of popularity.
Furthermore, it can also be credited for the emergence of other T20 leagues such as the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Big Bash and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Tournament Format
IPL uses what is known as a double round-robin format. Simply put, each team has to play the other twice, once on their home ground and once away. The winner of each game received two points and as expected the loser gets nothing.
Once all the allotted games have been played, the top 4 teams progress to the next stage known as the playoffs. The team with the most amount of points plays against the team with the least (top team vs the bottom team). The second and third place teams place each other.
If there is tie between the teams based on the points scored, then then Net Run Rate will determine who has the higher ranking. The winners of the playoffs march onto the final of the tournament.

IPL Betting Tips | Picking A Winner
Now that the IPL 2020 auctions have concluded, we have more insights on the strengths and weaknesses of each squad. A total of 62 players were sold off in the auction with total money spent to the tune of ?140.32 crore. Australian fast bowler, Pat Cummins was the most expensive player auctioned off to the Kolkata Knight Riders at ?15.5 crore.
Does this make KKR the best team this year? We don’t think so. In our opinion, the two teams look out for are the defending champions, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals.
Mumbai Indians are a no brainer to back this season. They have strong squad bolstered by Rohit Sharma who has been on phenomenal form in the Indian national team along with Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya.
They also played their cards right at the auction and picked up Chris Lynn for just 2 crores. Partner Lynn with Quinton de Kock and you have the two most lethal openers in the history of the IPL.
If the batting line up isn’t enough to back this team then the bowling pair of of Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult will surely seal the deal for you. Head over to Betway or 10Cric to get the best odds on Mumbai Indians to win the tournament this year.
Delhi Capitals (formerly known as Daredevils) have underachieved to say the least. They have yet to win the tournament and the squad under the guidance of Ricky Ponting will surely be looking to change that.
Delhi Capitals have borrowed heavily from Indian national team taking in players such as Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Rishab Pant, Ravi Ashwin, and Ishant Sharma.
They have also strengthened their squad with overseas players including Jason Roy, Alex Carey and Chris Woakes making for a relatively young team that is eager to win the tournament this year. Keen on placing a bet on Delhi Capitals? Head over to LeoVegas or Royal Panda for the best odds.

IPL Betting Tips | Which Markets Should I Bet On?
Once you have chosen bookmaker and are all set to place bets on a match of your choice, you will need to decide which outcome you are going to place a bet on. We have listed the most common markets you can place bets on –
Match Winner
As the name suggests, you place a bet on the winner of a particular match. You can either place a pre-bet which means you will lock your selection or go for an in-play bet which means wagering on a team while the match is taking place.
IPL Winner
Similar to the match winner bet, this involves placing a bet on who you think will win the tournament outright. The odds of all 8 times are listed with any bookmaker you choose before the start of the tournament. Bear in mind that these odds are subject to change depending on how each team performs as the tournament progresses.
Top Batsman/Bowler
You can place a bet on who you think will be crowned the top batsmen or bowler for an individual match or for the entire tournament. The highest batsmen are given to a player that scores the most runs while the highest bowler is one that takes the most wickets.
Toss Winner
You can also be cheeky and place a bet on the outcome of the toss. This requires no skill and gives you 50 – 50 chance of getting it right.
We hope that by reading this article you have a better grasp on India’s favourite cricket event. As always, we encourage you to do as much research as possible when betting on the IPL.
More importantly we would like to emphasize that cricket betting should undertaken in a responsible manner and that you should only bet what you can afford to lose.
