The Indian Premier League or IPL is a professional Twenty20 cricket league that is conducted in India during the months of March or April and May of every year. The league features competitive teams that represent different cities in India.
The IPL league is one of the best-loved cricket leagues that all cricket fanatics look forward to anxiously. Owing to the immense popularity among the masses, the IPL league was ranked sixth by average attendance among all sports leagues in the year 2014. There have been twelve seasons of the IPL tournament still dated with Mumbai Indians winning the 2019 IPL league gloriously.
Background History
It was on 13th of September 2007 where BCCI announced the launch of an exclusive franchise-based Twenty20 cricket competition which was later on called to be the popular Indian Premier League or IPL. The first IPL season commenced in 2008 April in New Delhi.
It was further revealed that the IPL would be managed by a seven-man governing council composed of former India players and BCCI officials and that the best two teams of the IPL would qualify for that year’s Champions League Twenty20. Also, the league format was set similar to that of the Premier League of England and the NBA in the United States.
