Match 35: RCB vs CSK
Chennai Super Kings won their second game in a row in the UAE to go to the top of the IPL points table, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets in IPL 2021 Match 35 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.
When they were sent in to bat, RCB had a two-part inning, with 90 runs at no loss in the first 10 overs and 66/6 in the last 10. They got off to a great start when Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal unmercifully hammered each of the CSK spinners on their way to a 111-run partnership for the first wicket, but things quickly went downhill when Bravo (3/24) struck to dismiss Kohli for 53.
RCB’s explosive middle-order, which included AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell, and Tim David, failed to deliver, with Shardul Thakur and Bravo tying the score and chipping in with regular wickets, including Thakur’s consecutive strikes in the 17th over, which saw both Padikkal (70 off 50) and de Villiers depart.
CSK, trailing 157, got off to a similar start as RCB, with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis scoring soon. Chahal broke their 71-run partnership when he returned Gaikwad for 38 off 26; and RCB gave themselves a glimmer of hope when Glenn Maxwell removed Faf du Plessis (31 off 26) in the next over, but Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu assure that their team stayed on track, scoring quickfire 23 and 32 respectively to keep their team on track.
